There is no 'creed' or
'doctrine' in Spiritualism ~ we
are free as birds to follow our hearts, and we are united
under the one 'banner' of the Seven Principles as follows ...
Fatherhood of God
Brotherhood of man
Communion of spirits and
the ministry of Angels
Personal responsibility
Continuous existence of the
human soul
Compensation and
retribution hereafter for all the good and evil deeds done on earth
Eternal progress open to
every human soul
These
principles were given to us by Robert Owen through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge
Britten in 1871. They were originally given as five principles but were later
changed to seven for clarity.
Some say Spiritualism is a religion, others that it's simply a union of like-minded people, they
are both right, we are ordinary folks gathering together to join in a
better understanding of our lives here on Earth, and yet Spiritualism is
so much more besides...
Spiritualists themselves will tell you how they came into this church or sanctuary, some people through the need for healing, some for hoping that their 'lost' loved ones are safe in another place, and yet others come for that missing philosophy so needed to give direction in our lives.
There are two kinds of Spiritualist Church Services, one on a weekday which is simply a 'Clairvoyant Evening' giving evidence of communication, and the other on a Sunday which is also a service of worship.

ABOUT DEREHAM SPIRITUALIST CHURCH AND SANCTURY
Dereham (or East Dereham, its the same place) is on the A47 here in
Norfolk, and
the church is very easy to find with plenty of parking space at the
front, the first picture below shows you the building as you have turned
between the small older shops on the one-way High Street.
Visitors
come from many areas to our lovely Norfolk Broads, and if you would
like to find other Spiritualist Churches there is a book on the 'Book
List' called "The Sign Post" to help you (top right of this page.)
The church seats 50 plus and was refurbished in 2010. We are
a friendly group of people who like to hold meetings with a bright and cheerful
atmosphere, we have songs that are modern and 'up-beat' in our song book.
(A recent new member confided to her friend that she liked
our modern song book, because it's "so unlike the dismal dirges" she
remembers of past experience!) So, why not come on down and join us? A warm welcome is
waiting here for you!
DIRECTIONS TO DEREHAM INDEPENDENT SPIRITUALIST CHURCH
THE A 47 IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MAP
Wix's Yard is between the shops on the High Street in the Town Center ~ follow the signs ~ you need to
go along the one-way street from the LIBRARY(mini) Round-A-Bout towards the
town center, you're now on "The High Street"
On this main High Street the church is behind the shops, on the LEFT between the old small shops ~ not the first posh new ones!
Should you miss the turning go
around the one-way system, road off to the right,
which is Norwich Street shown on the map with purple arrows ~ and back to the
Library ...
Here's a letter to the 'new reader' from Stella Rodgers (details top right of this page)..
Dear Friend,
Welcome to you, wherever you are! Are you wandering about on the net? Looking for a bit of information about spiritualism and 'things' in general?
Things like what's life all about? Well you've come to the right place...
A question: Are you the sort of person who
would prefer to dip your toe slowly and gently into seemingly strange
waters? Maybe you'd only walk through the door of a church if it were
raining? [Joke!]
And so you've found this website ... good
for you! Perhaps you'd like to get some information? This site is for
just that, we aren't selling things.
Or perhaps you want to know if what you've heard about Spiritualism is true ? Are they all cranks?
So, what exactly do YOU know about this subject?
I must say there are some funny stories going about! ..... Both "funny ha ha" and "funny peculiar" !
Well, you can be a spiritual person without ever setting foot in a church - you don't need me to tell you that do you?
But, if you are an intelligent person and
have an inquiring mind, then information is what you seek. I too have
looked on the net for info regarding spiritualism and come up a bit
lacking in places, so it is my sincere wish to fill those gaps with
sensible helpful information for you. I've been writing on this site now
for 15 years or more.
There will be some things that you agree
with, good. There will be some things you disagree with, that's fine
too. But what we all must do is follow our common sense - and
spiritualism tells us all to do exactly that, there is no creed and no
dogma in this ‘ism'!
Nothing is ever taken as 'read', DO
question everything, as we all do too, we're not in the blind trust
business! But to find what you need just now, send a genuine thought out
for help, and spirit will provide. [I have done this many times and am
still surprised at the results!]
We DO expect everyone to seek the truth of
the fact that there is no 'death' by asking for that proof, EVIDENCE
just like in a court of law, this is what a Spiritualist Medium's job is
- giving proof!
Let me say it again, PROOF is what we are all about!
I have found that there are basically
three 'doors' we all pass through to find a comfortable place to call
our spiritual home, and whatever our reasons might be these 'doors' are
grouped in the spiritualist church as: Healing, Evidence and Philosophy.
HEALING is a big subject [under Articles on the Main Menu] and like myself, many
people come into Spiritualism through that 'door', needing help that
they maybe feel cannot be received elsewhere, physical, emotional or
spiritual.
EVIDENCE or 'proof' has other names,
‘messages' or ‘communications' for example, but it all boils down to
wanting to know if our loved ones have arrived safely in the next world,
and if indeed it's true that there is a spirit world!
PHILOSOPHY in the spiritualist movement is
another name for teaching the understanding, and this is the biggest
subject ever... You will find no preaching in a spiritualist church,
because a medium doesn't give a sermon, s/he will allow the
communication to work in a most natural way and talk spontaneously from
the heart with guidance from the Eternal Spirit...
To quote Cecilia Meireles ...
"There are people who speak to us and we
do not listen to them; there are people who hurt us and they don't leave
a scar, but there are people who simply appear in our life and they
mark us for ever."
May your marks be loving spiritual ones!
Also, it won't hurt to ask spirit for
guidance as you browse through these pages, so just think of
your Guardian Angel and say "Good help please!" and off you go...!
