Spiritualist Census Australia 2006.
This is from Australia / Jim
Hi All,
I have been thinking about how and why
scientists may review our claims as a body. We have a unique proposition that we
can prove that the individual spirit with its personality lives on beyond
physical death.
In itself this is a draw to investigate.
However we have an
additional attraction in that as part of this proof we also exercise and use
psychic abilities which create great interest for investigators, allied as they
are to so much phenomena.
Clearly when they do any reviews it tends
to focus on survival and not many of the other interesting issues that are drawn forward from this evidence (does the spirit exist pre-conception, reincarnation
etc).
Now prior to World War 2 Spiritualism had
millions of adherents, and in the social/economic climate of the time here is
little wonder that so many intellectuals and scientists were drawn
in.
How times change just for info some of
the latest census data from Australia
2006 - about 20mill pop in census.
9,849 declared Spiritualists
(70% female),
Pagan / Wiccan 23,730 (72% female)
Theosophists 1,639,
Swedenborgs 361
Zoroastrian 2,110.
United Kingdom 2001 census of 50Mill answers
Spiritualists declared 32,404,
Wicca / pagan 41,056,
Zorost 3,738.
In the
UK the "Jedi Knights" beat us hands down at 390,000. Figures for the USA show
2001 estimates 116,000 Spiritualists 307,000 pagans/wiccans USA population, how
many, in excess of 250million?
I know that only dedicated people will
nominate Spiritualism, some people will claim orthodoxy's on the census but then
come to us.
However even allowing for that, it highlights a problem, I
really don't think we have the numbers to make science jump much except about
the phenomena and not necessarily treating it seriously .... Whereas we once did
have the numbers.
