What is Hypnotherapy?
I have put the image of a lighthouse here because I think of Hypnotherapy as a guiding light - it is through this that we can all help ourselves to be what we want to be, because only the person undergoing the process can have any effect on themselves - not the hypnotist !
It is the light house in a world of ignorance about the inner self, we can all - with a little help - reprogramme ourselves to a better way of life and in so doing maybe rid the past of the unwanted.
The word "hypnosis" is an abbreviation of James Braid's (1843) term "neuro-hypnotism", meaning "sleep of the nervous system".
A
person who is hypnotized displays certain unusual characteristics and
propensities, compared with a non-hypnotized subject, most notably
hyper-suggestibility, which some authorities have considered a sine qua non of hypnosis.
For example, Clark L Hull probably the first major empirical researcher in the field, wrote,
"If a subject after submitting to the hypnotic procedure shows no
genuine increase in susceptibility to any suggestions whatever, there
seems no point in calling him hypnotized " ... [Hull, Hypnosis &
Suggestion, 1933: 392]
Hypnotherapy
is often applied in order to modify a subject's behavior, emotional
content, and attitudes, as well as a wide range of conditions including
dysfunctional habits, anxiety, stress-related illness, pain management,
addictions and personal development .
Hypnotherapy
is all about achieving permanent change and it can help you because it
enables you to modify your subconscious thoughts, and succeed in
achieving the change you want.
This therapy should only be carried out by a trained practitioner who has the qualifications on display and are recognised by The National Council of Hypnotherapy, however there
is at this time no government legislation regarding qualifications in
Hypnosis or related therapies, but those schools who are affiliated to
governing bodies state that this is so. It is advised to look for a registration list in this subject before undergoing any treatment, this site is a good one ...

In other words ... look for other qualifications together with the Hypnotherapy one.
