Stress from the Spiritualist point of view.
The first place we feel stress - consciously or subconsciously - is in the mind, then later if it persists in the body, ulcers of the stomach for example.
Stress of modern living all comes down to the same thing it starts in the mind which is our mental body. Remember there are many different 'bodies' that make up the whole, these are the spiritual body where we all exist firstly, then the emotional body. These two are closely connected which is why spiritual healing is so effective with this problem.
Then the mental body which is the next connection coming from the spiritual, and lastly the physical. This is the way spiritual healing works, the spirit first then all the way down to physical.
What we do when we get stressed is we get disconnected from our spiritual self - can't hear for all the interference - and because this part of ourselves ,our spiritual body, is the person we truly are, we find we have dividee ourselves from the source of spiritual sustanance, i.e. healing.
All our inspiration, our feelings of well being come from our connection through the universal energy field from The Source/ God, so because we have shut ourselves down, cut our mental self off from the rest of our body, it is made harder for spirit energies to get through to us.
What to do?
Now, we are all unique human beings, therefore we feel, deal, cope differently. One crucial aspect we all have in common is this, we are made up of those four basic bodies/aspects that I just mentioned, physical - mental etc.
Help yourself!
Breathe in and tell your mind that you are relaxing, tell your body to feel how each part of you relaxes – starting from your head, let go of all the tightness in each muscle, name them as you go all the way down to your toes. This is a very basic but profound way to release stress, as you are using all four aspects of yourself. I learnt this in anti-natl classes 35 years ago!
You do this Physically so all the muscles relax, then mentally being the most powerful, then emotionally because there is inner peace, and lastly the source of all energy is ... spiritually when all around you comes into focus.
How do we do this?
Visualisation is one way, picture in your minds eye the most relaxing place to be, and take yourself there, [more about this on the lessons section.]
Obviously this is not possible if you are in the midst of a physical situation, but when you are able, practice going to the 'special place' and with time and practice you can cut out the distress and be mentally in that quiet zone of the special place you have conjured up for yourself.
I recommend each day as you get up, and then again as you go to bed at night, that you visualise this state of physical being for just a few minutes at first, and so induce the mental state of zoning out the rest of the world, building the time up as you go along.
