Fraudulent Mediums Act Passed in 1951.
Because the Act describes what is a FRAUDULENT MEDIUM, this proves that a genuine medium must also exist.
The Act protects the public from deception, The Union from being sued, and the medium from imprisonment - like Helen Duncan in 1944, incarcerated for 9 months. The benefit to HEALING is the ‘Healing Code of Conduct’.
The ethical point of it is ‘THE INTENTION TO DECEIVE’ - THIS THE ACT MAKES CLEAR. GIVING OF MONEY [or reward of any kind] in the Act underlines the separation of entertainment and religion. In other words, slight of hand, conjuring being performed in Mediumship for money and/or pretending to demonstrate a materialisation is clearly outside the law.
Because Entertainment and Mediumship are separated we need to understand what the difference exactly there is.
A psychic who clearly entertains only, and does not purport to be in touch with the Spirit world [and earns reward] is not a medium. A PSYCHIC is a person who can only tell you what you already know; psychic communications are between TWO PEOPLE without the spirit person taking any part … A psychic is ‘reading’ or ‘connecting’ via the auras, and nothing more, it is very skilled in itself but not spiritual in nature. It is ‘tuning into’ the aura, and ‘reading’ body languages, it’s even possible to play back a whole history of a person’s life, like a video. To earn a living a ‘gypsy’ is going say she can predict the future, we have more than one reason not to do this, which are both moral and legal. Firstly our guidelines of the seven principles number 5 which is personal responsibility, [not trying to change a persons direction without their consent,] and secondly The Fraudulent Mediums Act we can still be prosecuted for some things.
QUESTION: Psychics often use PSYCHOMETRY but what is this?
The difference is they are READING THE AURA of an object or person and giving this information to you. A psychic can 'Roll back time' for example, In classes with students that have no experience I have had good results with this exercise. It is also possible to do this unintentionally, so if we are intending to give communications we must be careful to establish the contact of spirit first – before we give any information.
You will see sometimes this is information is not always given to establish that the 'rolling back' of time is not in operation her, so contact must be made first before any information is given - in that order. Sometimes a ‘sandwich’ method is used, perhaps when contact is poor due to low vibration / lack of support, the psychic level is used as a fall-back and contact is re-established because when the medium is seen to be ‘doing OK’ enthusiasm / vibration picks up! But if s/he is a good 'operator' the general public will not notice.
THE PSYCHIC might use as an aid to linking into the aura of a person. Gypsies use cards and or the Aura. Links for past memories are enough for the psychic to impress the naïve, but not the spiritualist who only wishes to help other, not themselves THIS IS WHY WE MUST IDENTIFY THE SPIRIT PERSON FOR A GENUINE CONTACT TO BE PROVED.
But, lets not be too hasty THESE AIDS CAN ALSO BE USED AS STEPPING STONES FOR SPIRITUAL CONTACT!
So we need to listen and judge using common sense making sure the spiritual contact is recognised first and foremost. Ribbons - cards - flowers – lights etc…“A Light Service‿ Coloured lights and visualisation are used as a novelty service at church. Coloured Ribbons to assist in interpretation - Flowers, Fairy Picture Cards used as a novelty service at church and private readings. Tarot is considered by some to be ‘Occult’ this word only means supernatural obscure, concealed, magical etc… Palms - Tealeaves - Sand pictures - Crystal ball - Glass of water - Candle flame.
All are only instruments. BUT BEWARE of staying in the psychic area only. It is easy for the lazy person to accept praise and never progress… All these aids are “end of the pier‿ stuff! - But they are still aids for us to use as STUDENTS as long as we are clear about what they are used for, AS AN AID ONLY.
Yes, it is true a medium needs to have the psychic ability, this is awareness in order to communicate with the discarnate spirit, but psychism is not to be considered an end in itself only a means to spiritual mediumship. It is easy to feel a certain sense of accomplishment having gained the two-way ‘psychic only’ connection and perhaps forget that we must go further onwards to the other more important objective - which is contact with the spirit world OR WE CANNOT call ourselves spiritual or a medium.
However if we are satisfied with that alone and do not wish to be a medium, perhaps thinking that spirit will not help the way we wish spirit to do so! [remember, they do not assist in the material gain dept,] or maybe it’s just too much like hard work to go onwards just now, then the psychic gifts become very acute over time being used so much more, and the danger is … that’s where our abilities stay – limited.
A MEDIUM
A Medium is on a spiritual line of communication and will tell you things that only spirit could possibly know, e.g. the event that you know nothing about, and have to go and ask someone to confirm it. This is what we call evidence of the afterlife, and the reason for it is NOT to find out how to live our lives, but to seek the help and guidance to progress spiritually [under our own steam,] learning as we go.
SPIRITUAL MEDIUMSHIP
Spiritual mediumship is a special privileged connection with the spirit world and the receiver; a medium is on a spiritual line of clairvoyant involvement with the communication but must respect privacy, at the same time filtering things. Using the psychic connection with the spirit world and the physical world, not just the physical to physical, the medium is ‘middle-man’, the messenger. In order for the medium to contact the spirit world there must a special relationship with the guide or helper, and special friendships as we all know take time to develop, and also training. Visualisation and meditation are used here to heighten the abilities of psychic and mediumship too, it is very much recommended by all parties.
It is possible to do it without but this is very unusual. The medium will build on all the clairvoyant skills needed through communication and this is usually using the mediation techniques. Further reading you will find in the Clairvoyant Section title ‘Guides and helpers’
in the Lessons Section title ‘Guidance’.
QUESTION: How could an unscrupulous psychic/medium mislead an enquirer/sitter? And what tools might either an unscrupulous psychic or medium use?
They could mislead an enquirer by physical means, magic tricks, slight of hand etc, motive here is not important, be it for financial gain or not, it is still wrong. Tarot cards, crystals, etc are not encouraged for this reason, their use can be misinterpreted.
Using mind tricks, by giving false information either for their own gain, just for the power of influencing another persons life by saying that spirit is telling them to do this. Emotional manipulation taking advantage of the grieving person for whatever reason, an ego boost, power can corrupt the weak minded, it is all very unkind and extremely un-spiritual.
Either a medium or a psychic who purports to have any special knowledge either from spirit or not, is misleading, they are also leaving themselves open to prosecution. A qualification, of say a medical kind, must be used out of the context of the church, or private sitting, to avoid confusion in the mind of the sitter, as to who is giving the advice.
The psychic. If a psychic communication is purported to be spiritual, this is misleading, bearing in mind that impressions of an expected communication with a deceased relative or friend can be retained in the ‘aura’, and so read by an experienced psychic. A psychic can mislead by deliberately ‘reading’ the unconscious emanations of a physical kind that we all give out, body language, facial expressions, and other visible signs, and using this method to deceive a sitter into thinking that it is a spiritual communication. [The thoughts that are going through the sitters mind might be picked up through a telepathic link also, these may be ‘read', like a diary of the days events.]
The medium. The purporting to be a spiritualist medium when one is a psychic without that capability is misleading in its self. It is of no matter if money or reward of any kind in involved, motive is not the issue here, to deceive is anathema to the spirit world. It will no doubt delay the progress of the protagonist too!
The first method of deception coming to mind, [that may be used by both,] is fortune telling i.e. predicting the future. Although this is what a lot of people actually do come to the psychic/medium for mostly in the private reading which is by no means under a different set of rules.
It must be made absolutely clear that we do not do this, it is very wrong both morally and legally, and is made clear in the guidelines for mediums in all the literature. Anyway, the basic assumption here is wrong, it is not possible to ‘tell fortunes’ because each and every one of us, here and in spirit, have the power to change the course of history at any given time, by simply changing the course our actions. It must be that the spirit loved ones know far more than we do about this subject, living in the timeless spheres as they do, but they would never interfere with events that have to do directly or indirectly with our development / progression. It’s not only wrong it can be dangerous too, and implying to the sitter that ‘this is what spirit would want’ is simply not true, they don’t do that, principal 5 is always in place.
Two points arise here, first, if a person is told what they are ‘going to do’, they may be programmed on a sub-conscious level into doing just that, and second, to conversely do the opposite and still going to change the course of events, thus voiding the so-called ‘prophecy’. [Catch 22 is that we will still do Gods work no matter what we think we are doing…!] By pretending even by implication, just hinting, that information comes from spirit, when it does not is misleading, and of course leaving a sentence unsaid, [so leaving a misconception in place,] is just as bad.
Any doubt in the mediums mind as to whether the sitter is not clear about a thing must be sorted out, conscious neglect in this is not making the medium any less culpable. Another way a sitter might be mislead, we could say by ‘default’, is by neglecting to inform him/her that although the medium does their best, it is not guaranteed that they will be able to make a spiritual connection at all. This must be made clear at the beginning of the process to avoid confusion.
