Visit to 'The Spiritualist Associstion Of Great Britain' in April this year. We’ve been down to the big city on a coach trip to the SAGB, and yes they still do them, and what a good day we had too! The day started by the pick-up early in the day it's about three hours from here, and we made good time into London. Going past where my son is to be married next month was a surprise, everyone looked out of the window when we went past Bow Registry Office, and again to see the lovely green park on the bridge where they’ll have photos taken if it’s fine. Yes the bridge has a park on it! When we got to the restaurant where the reception is to be held more craning of necks to have a look, when asked “And who’s doing the blessing then? I puffed out my ‘feathers’ and said “ME! Clapping all round, cheeky lot! As we all arrived the reception was buzzing, with instructions to those who had booked private sittings to collect their tickets for later, this saves time, and a firm warning that if you are late at the right door, the medium will not go over the allotted time! Duly noted! Up then to the main hall on the first floor, and we all admired the sweeping stairs from the ‘good old days’ What did I expect? Would there be a service or not? My companion thought it might be like the outing to the White Eagle Lodge, a festival in the great out doors! I had no idea at all. The programme was of three speakers in the morning and ditto in the afternoon. As the excitement built up a pretty and well dressed lady called Janet Birdseye arrived promptly and was escorted to the stage by the master of ceremonies who introduced her, giving qualifications, and she started the proceedings with an up beat demonstration that got us all off on the right ‘foot’ laughing and enjoying the day, what a good demonstrator she is. Well, the time flew by, it was fascinating, each medium was totally on the ‘ball’, everyone accepted straight away what was brought forward, and as people slipped out for their individual ‘readings’ in other parts of the building, because each medium knows the routine a few humorous remarks like “Was I that rubbish? stopped any embarrassment. I’d booked a reading with a well-known international medium, both here and in Germany and Scandinavia, called Billy Cook, and it was super. He was to speak later on so I hadn’t met him yet. Then it came to our turn for creeping out of the hall, and where were we sitting? At the front of course! We’ll know next time to sit near the door …. Then down to the waiting room to be collected by an assistant and taken up in the rickety old lift, it fits two people only, [or more if they’re very good friends!] Billy had another sitter in with him, so I waited outside admiring the old building again with its stained glass windows, while she knocked and trotted off down stairs, a few moments later the door opened and in I went. In the details given from the programme a small note said that if we would like to record the sitting it was OK to bring a recording machine and tape, so this I did, a small Dictaphone from ‘way back’, putting in on the desk between us, asking him first to be polite, of course being a professional he thought nothing of this at all. As we shook hands to begin he said straight away that he should be having a reading from me…ha ha! It’s one of those things that I never do anywhere, say I’m a medium, I think it’s a bit pompous, but because he is a very psychic he ‘sussed’ me out immediately, and what’s more, gave a character assessment that was extremely perceptive too. Don’t you think that it’s revealing to hear from another person things we have only suspected about ourselves? Makes ya think! There were brought foreword lots of names that I had not heard from before and had been wondering about recently, I find that spirit people do this to let us know they also are aware of our loving thoughts that go out to them, and of course I heard form the usual ‘suspects’! Grandma etc… In the past I’ve had messages for my husband and family too, but this time it was all for myself, advice from guides and spirit helpers was very good, they all identified themselves clearly too, questions were requested towards the end of time, which is usual. The half hour flew by with references to past, present, and future prospects too, [we all know that spirit cannot ‘tell the future’] giving a rounded and serious but very cheerful reading. And down I went again very thoughtful to the main hall to hear the next speaker with my friends. Coffee, tea and lunch break in the little café with all the gang, which is down in the basement. Very nice sandwiches cakes etc, and a good cup of tea too, and then off around the block in the lunch hour for a breath of fresh air. The bookstall was having a sale and we all made the most of the opportunity to buy things of interest. The afternoon again flew by with this time the TV medium Gordon Smith taking the final prime place. He only demonstrates at the SAGB at ticketed events. At these events he only gives Platform Demonstrations, meaning he does not give private readings. All the mediums are as you would expect – very professional and business like. Gordon Smith started by saying he would answer questions for fifteen minutes, his time was three quarters of an hour, so hands shot up quickly. My question was trying to get him to talk about the TV work but all he said was that the cameras and all the electrical equipment didn’t put him off because the concentration was so intense, and wouldn’t be drawn to talk about any amusing incidents, maybe there weren’t any! Terry Tasker was another of the days mediums, I have met him in the Bradford Idle Spiritualist church at a workshop a few years ago and what a day that was! Fantastic! He gave demonstrations of table tipping and transformation too. Memorable! Time to go home came all too soon and we waited outside in the sunshine for the coach to take us back again to Norfolk. Raffles and a bit of singing passed the time along and joking with new and old friends. I must say the energies from the day stopped us all being too tired and this upliftment went on for a few days. This old tradition of ‘Church Outings’ was a regular thing in years gone by, and I’m so pleased to be now with a community that hold these things dear to its heart. End.
