Why be a Medium?
Because it is the best job in this world!
In the next world there might be many other ways to help our loved ones here on the planet Earth, but for now the 'here and now' its the best way I know, and progress on the eternal path for all concerned is a nice little extra by-product of mediumship!
What does the job entail?
Healing, Speaking, and Clairvoyance are the three public things that a medium does. In other words that's three kinds of service. Usually Sundays have the extra talk or philosophy and weekdays have a shorted service of just communications, with healing being joined to or separate from those times.
Not only do mediums get booked one or two years in advance, but also we stand in when emergencies occur, for example I have bookings that have grown over the years from one or two local churches to 33 on my present list.
The private side which comprises of house visiting or requesting the 'sitter' to come to our own premises and that might be for a 'reading / sitting' with clairvoyance. Also there is the removing of unwanted spirits from places. [See Ghosts / Rescue work article, in the section 'True Stories']
Also Hospital and Hospice visiting, always only by request, and of course with permission from the patient and/or relatives and nursing staff too.
A clinic at a local church is run by a team of healers that are chosen by the committee and if there is a lack of qualified healers to supervise the team, then another church might end one from there to stand in till the problem is solved. This I have been doing for most of this year.
How to start?
Open circle is best. Don't worry you will have nothing to give - stand up and talk as your heart moves you, and with the right motive it will come. Spirit do not refuse any help as long as you're not trying to impress or get egotistical!
When a person first stands up in an open circle they usually only feel able to give one or two words, it is not important how many words that you give, one word might mean everything to another persons future well being and we each start in the best way for ourselves.
It is important not to get the impression that there is some obligation...there is not.
Natural progression is the best way, YOU decide how fast and when, where etc that you want to progress, Spirit cannot make you do anything because of principle 5 - Personal Responsibility this is the thing to remember throughout - there is no exception.
Of course it works both ways, without your asking to be helped they cannot! So if a person has a natural gift as a psychic they might use this to what ever limits they have, but this is not spiritualism, to be a spiritualist medium we all need the help of the spirit world and those who dwell there. I explain the difference between the two kinds of clairvoyance in the section ‘Articles’ – ‘Clairvoyance’ – ‘not just a psychic’.
The natural progression is just what is best for each person, and most of us might think that a working medium that we see on the platform each week might be different from a nervous beginner.
Not so, there must be exceptions to the rule, but as far as I know the modern medium has come 'up through the ranks' from the one word in an open circle through uncertainty to competence.
So if you are just starting out on this path of learning ... please, keep going to open circles and practicing in all the ways you can, till you have confidence to start platform work, but do not allow yourself to be persuade by enthusiastic [or desperate] church secretaries to get up there in public before competence and ability match enthusiasm!
It is a pet hate of the older established fraternity for the newer platform workers not to know who is the recipient in the congregation. It wastes time, tries patience, and lacks professionalism to say the least.
End.
