BOOKS for students of SPIRITUALISM by S. Rodgers C.S.N.U.
This list has been devised on the request of my students not just for teaching purposes, but also for self-awareness and development, and lets not forget reading for pleasure!
The SNU site and has many fantastic books see the web link page.
Some of these are only bought as antiques on the “Albris‿ web site where there is a section of ‘find by author/title’, and there are many others sites just type in keyword ‘find book’ , [that’s if there is any difficulty at your nearest decent bookshop.] IBSN number to order a book with usually means its still in print.
1. First on my list…“Hints on Mediumistic Development‿ and “Hints on Spiritual Unfoldment‿ by Ursula Roberts who was a Christian lady. A ‘must’ for anybody interested in awareness and developing personal skills in Spiritualism. No IBSN number - Only 4s 6d in the old days!
2. Any of Silver Birch’s books, particularly “The Silver Birch Anthology‿ for a good start in the reading dept, both spiritual upliftment and calming. I recommend all these books to my healing patients for reading before going to sleep; re-read time after time, www.angelfire.com/ok/silverbirch understanding philosophy at it’s best.
2. Any of White Eagle’s famous books “Why on Earth‿ “The Gentle Brother‿ “Golden harvest‿ Again I recommend all these books for reading before sleeping to get a good nights spiritual healing! 5. “The Boy who saw true‿ Cyril Scott. Non-fiction. ISBN 0 85435 493 X. A remarkable, interesting, and entertaining book for helping the beginner to understand the spirit world through a child’s experiences!
6. “The Autobiography of Emma Hardinge Britten‿ -- SNU Publications ISBN 0902 036 08 4. Witty and a darn good read, a modest lady, no ego-trip here.
7. “Reminiscences - A lifetime of Spiritualism.‿ By Ursula Roberts. Very funny in places, a good read, how glad I am not to have these travel problems of a by-gone age!
8. “Excursions to the Spirit World‿, author: Frederick C Sculthorp. ISBN: 0900413298. A fascinating good read.
9. “Ena Twigg Medium‿ ISBN 0 352 30015 9. A lovely, modest, down to earth interesting lady.
10. “The Blue Island‿ subtitled “Experiences Of A New Arrival Beyond The Veil‿. Communicated by W. T. Stead Recorded by Pardoe Woodman and Estelle Stead. There is a letter of introduction by the famous Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This book has much to commend it, not least the historical interest of the experience of the ‘Titanic’. Stead is himself an important and interesting figure historically too.
11. “Spiritualism in the evolution of Religion‿ Ernest Thompson FSNU. Not a stuffy book, putting Spiritualism into context historically. First published in 1953. Many other books by the same author. Psychic Book Club.
12. “The Spirit Book‿ by Alan Kardec. Serious enquiry. Appears to be a bit ‘text-bookish’, but is not difficult to read.
13. “The History of Spiritualism‿ ISBN 0 85384 079 2. Psychic Press [web as above]. By the famous author of the Sherlock Holms books, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, [who was a personal friend of the also famous magician Houdini. Did you know that they both started out to disprove Spiritualism and ended up greatest supporters?
14. “This is Spiritualism‿ Maurice Barbanell. ISBN 0 85384 108 X. Not hard to read, a textbook for the serious student.
15. “On remembering Past Lives‿ ISBN 0 85030 862 3. And there are many other books by Edgar Cayce [1877 to 1945] which are given from spirit through this simple man whilst in deep trance; this was his life work, fascinating! One book deals with the healing and has prescriptions for ailments made of very simple things mostly very accessible too! His life story also makes fascinating reading. Just type in his name for a web site, and you will be spoilt for choice.
16. “The Mediumship of Jack Webber.‿ By the famous healing medium and President of the National Federation of Spiritualist Healers, Harry Edwards. 1962. The Healer Publishing Co Ltd, Burrows Lea, Shere, Guilford, Surry. THE PHOTOGRAPHS IN THIS BOOK ARE AMAZING!

...........................................
A good tip for which one to get first is this: First ask for guidance to see what is the best book for you to start with, then go into the book shop and browse along the shelf and notice which one seems to stand out, I have done this when confused about what will be of use to me NOW often we are spoilt for choice..!
Happy reading to you all!
End.
