Gifts: Automatic writing - psychometry - psychic artist - [usually portrait paintings] - Aura / Card / Flower Reading etc may or may not have spirit involvement.
This is one of the questions that I as a teacher might be asked. "Is it as necessary to develop psychic ability, as it is to increase attunement with spirit?"
Answer: In psychic awareness the connection is ONLY with the physical person one is giving the reading to, the sitter, and in spiritual attunement one is connecting to BOTH the discarnate spirit entity making a link, a psychic link.
The medium is psychic because to be in touch with spirit, to make a link, one needs this ability, to get in touch with another person in the spirit world, but a psychic is not necessarily having mediumistic skills if s/he has not taken that extra step onwards.
If one wants to be a good medium then attunement to spirit is more important than psychic in itself, but attunement and psychic abilities are usually developed side by side as needed thus increasing an all round awareness, so they would usually, and naturally go hand in hand.
Dis-incarnate and incarnate spiritual awareness is not just useful, but also very important, we all can and should be able to tell the difference, so as to be aware when there is not a spiritual connection, and I cannot see that this could be achieved without some knowledge of both.
Here ignorance is NOT bliss! Purporting / pretending to be a Medium is an offense.
Although we could say it is desirable to develop the abilities of both psychic and attunement, because during the early stages of development it is useful to develop the psychic abilities in order to help the mediumistic skills, but as the need for the psychic falls away with time, we can see it could be ‘side-stepped’. But in other events, it’s not essential, unless one is a lazy person and/or can’t be bothered to progress in the spiritual side, is content to say in the psychic ‘rut’.
Because the mediumistic skills can be developed by the student when no other help is available, the spirit guides and helpers will put the willing student into the right place if needed, without perhaps the student ever knowingly developing purely psychic abilities that can be used only with the sitters spirit.
Spirit will manage to help progression, encourage forward, the student to serve them, if willing, anyway. This is obviously dependant on the original purpose of the exercise, i.e. whom to serve?
But we must not forget too, that the spirit guides and helpers need as many of our abilities that the medium, novice or experienced, can muster up, and/or learn to help spirit people to ‘tune in’ to us too.
They also must work hard to develop the links through any and all of whatever heightened, psychic or not, abilities are available to them, and these are helped, and encouraged by any or whatever awareness is available.
Another use of psychic attunement is in a church service, this might come in when the spirit connection is weak, not as strong as needed for good work.
In which case psychic ability is quite handy in certain circumstances to 'fill in' while the energies are building up again, and there is no harm in using these abilities, so long as it is made clear to the congregation that this is what is happening at that time, in other words - that it is not a spirit connection, only the mediums own thoughts or words.
This is why the evidence needs to be carefully given and of the right kind.
Card Readings and Meditations for Guidance.
In the 'Ash' story [see 'True Stories' Section ] the Reading with the cards was for help in a situation that was felt to be difficult. I needed to talk to someone in the spirit world who was in authority on a subject that I didn't know enough about.
Just as on the platform the guide comes in as requested, it might be that the medium knows them or not, for instance the philosophy has a regular guide and perhaps another helper that will change or pop in and out as needed, this is not particularly important at the time.
The point I am making is that asking for help and getting a reply is a bit more difficult for oneself, and a good way of doing this is a Reading using for example the cards. There are many kinds of cards and not all are Tarot by a long shot.
Just a small point here, the purpose behind the reading is all that matters – not the cards themselves, the cards have no influence as they are inanimate objects, but as we know it is possible that the imagination of the film makers can tend to put silly ideas into impressionable minds!
Just to be clear in case you have not read about the difference between a 'Card Reading' and a 'Sitting' or consultation.
Definition:
A Private Sitting or Consultation is an interview with a third party - the medium - who ‘tunes into’ the spirit world, but usually not using any physical aids, like cards flowers, or crystals for example, for that is only what cards etc are, visual aids, and they are often more for the client's assurance than the medium's assistance.
A ‘Reading’ on the other hand uses all or any of the above, because the Clairvoyant is ‘reading’ the cards or whatever, but only as a guideline on subject matter, and as an indication to what spirit wish to say, i.e. suggestions to the medium from spirit of a memory or incidence taken from the clients past, just as the communications / clairvoyance works on the platform, or in the Open Circle.The cards I use for anything in the nature world are SHAMEN WISDOM CARDS and they have a website which is on our Web List under the heading of ‘Fun’.There is a leaflet inside that will go into all the details of each card, and I advise you to read it - but not try to memorise because this is not the object of any card reading if you are a Spiritualist, only if you are a psychic and want to rely just on yourself.Layouts are indicated as needed for each occasion, and again read all the different ideas on what can be used and wait to see what ‘pops up’ in your mind at the time. Examples could be a General reading as for Tarot e.g. the Celtic Cross. Or my own ‘Flying Ducks’ for two directions of decision-making. A circle in the style of a clock also is good because each card has meaning in each circle moving outwards.But beware of going on too long – I advise to put each card on the table face down and turn up each one as you ‘read’. Here is a description from a reader who was attending classes to develop another gift, that of 'automatic writing', as you see the spirit is very much involved here!
Another
"tool" early on in the second awareness group was spiritual
writing. Each week I would sit with pen
poised over a notepad on which was written a word chosen by our medium as the
subject of that week (homework) and wait for the flow of words that would enter
my head at rapid speed and then write and write until the words stopped. Each week my writing (messages from spirit) would be wonderful
but sombre and at this time I called my guide the Philosopher.
My group companions would read out their
wonderfully flowery offerings, which sounded as if they had come from the
angels themselves. On this particular
week the word was "Sympathy" and as I sat in silent meditation before
lifting up my pen I asked for a prettier piece to write. The words came as before at an even faster
rate and spirit had to pause more than once for me to catch up. When they had finally finished and I looked
at what I had written I cried.
The
spirit had done something, which no other had done, she had given me her name,
Annie, and it appeared to be Annie's story of life on the streets. I was overwhelmed then as I am now thinking
about it but delighted months later when a medium from the platform said 'Annie
says hello.' This has happened again
and I always reply 'Hi, Annie'.
