Why do we have weight problems?
We
all have a built in need to eat, and the early thoughts and feelings
that go with this need have, of course, to be pleasant. Pleasant
things are just as good at masking the unwanted as are nasty things,
which can pop up from time to time unaided. So the issue is most often
a masking process.
Our body
image is able to effect us in the most positive or negative ways, when
we 'see' ourselves as failures we are inclined to give up.
The opposite of this is the arrogant person who 'sees' themselves as perfect! These extrems of attitude can be adjusted with hypnotherapy.
You might have picked up a
sensationalised picture of hypnosis from the media or stage shows.
Please put that out of your mind, you'll have a really enjoyable as
well as powerful experience, during which you are always in control.
How does Hypnotherapy differ from other therapies?
The hypnotherapist opens the door to the sub-conscious mind directly,
thus the root of the problem can be easily pin-pointed and then
transformed into a positive pattern.
Because it is a fast-track to the sub-conscious ”emotional trigger” the
therapy can take a few hours rather than the years it could take in
conventional therapy which works mainly on the conscious level.
This is a
great bonus because so many people need action quickly for many
reasons, I'm thinking here of my clients who are on the books for
future operations, that might be delayed for such a long time when
results are too slow.
You’re in charge
At
every point the therapist will ask if you are willing to let go of old
habits; everything needs your permission. S/he is just there to be an
experienced guide for you, who knows the territory, and is there to
take you only where you want to go, at the pace that is right for you,
and by the most pleasant route possible!
Eating
is so emotive, but must be kept in perspective so that it becomes a
pleasant experience, but not an obsession. Thinking about food and
worrying about it most of the time is actually destructive. Hypnosis
actually alters this pattern, it brings food and all the emotions that
go with it into line with ordinary every day living, without all the
upset of our inner voices whispering guilty things!
Light Trance
One
definition of hypnotherapy is ‘using a light trance state for positive
change’. Each time we visualise in our own mind an event in order to
recall it, we go into a light trance state so we can draw that memory
out of our ’store-house’. Visualisation is the lightest form of trance,
which might be used to take a person on a guided journey.
Weight
loss is so appropriate for this, just the visualisation of food can
bring all the emotions up to the surface, and a little restructuring of
the thought patterns shows the client so quickly how special techniques
get rid of that fear sensation, and brings peace and harmony back into
a persons life.
You
might think that a deep trance is necessary but that is not the
case. Any time that you are absorbed in or focusing on something you
are effectively in a light trance. Even watching television or reading
a book is a form of trance, as is looking at a computer screen as you
are doing now, it is an altered state of awareness.
What does it feel like?
You
might well say, “I didn’t feel hypnotised” or “I heard every word”.
Usually it feels as if you could get up straight away if you wanted to,
but you just can’t be bothered. You’re not going to a hypnotherapist to
be ‘hypnotised’; you are going to have your life improved / adjusted,
the therapist’s job is to create positive change in you, not to knock
you out!
Some
people even have said to me that they expected the therapist to
re-programme the client like a robot, I cannot change a persons brain,
in actual fact they change thier own minds about what to think!
Early Success
I
have used visualisation in teaching for many years, and a surprising
success was years ago when I was an instructor for a group of trainee healers. After the
training session each student was amazed at the amount of healing that
was brought about through this simple, very structured form of visualisation and
light trance to themselves!
Each had a story to tell of the
interesting journey they had been on that evening. I had not even tried
to change them, but I'd asked them to allow changes to anything they wanted all by themselves.
So how can hypnosis help me?
Thankfully,
we can effectively
“switch off” or “turn down” unwanted emotions and / or replace them
with far more useful ones. In fact it is almost easy as we would switch
off light or turn a dimmer switch, but you have heard of the phrase
"it's easy when you know how".
This is what
the trained hypnotherapist helps the client to do, but if the will to
change is not truly there, there will be no change. We cannot, any of
us, talk a person into doing a thing that s/he is not ready to do at
that time. Investigating the resistance to change takes patience, skill
and understanding, this is why it is so important that a therapist is
well qualified.
But what is this 'state' really?
A hypnotic ‘state’ is as simple as when you’re reading a book or
watching a film - that point when you have cut out all external stimuli
and have lost yourself.
That’s your subconscious taking over,
as it does when you can’t remember driving two junctions on the
motorway because you were ‘miles away’.
Achieving this state in a controlled
environment, under hypnosis, allows for you to focus away from your
present reality and toward your thoughts, images, feelings and
motivations. How good would it be to design your life, rather than live
it by default? Hypnotherapy is the key that enables the vast power of
the mind to bring about positive and beneficial changes.
Some of the most common treatments I
attend to are in the area of pain relief and management, with
behavioural problems like smoking and weight control a close second,
where the detoxing of acupuncture is so effective together with
Traditional Chinese Medicine.
You are actually getting, in my
clinic, so many complementary therapists for the price of one. Very few
people study more than one of the ‘big’ alternative treatments such as
Acupuncture, Chinese Traditional Medicine, Hypnotherapy, or NLP; I
don’t know of any others who have studied more than two. Added to
which, some newer methods such as EFT can be extremely rapid and
powerful.
And how does that help you?
It’s more efficient, both in time and
value. It means I can see your health from a variety of angles and
choose the treatment, or combination of treatments, that will probably
work best for you and produce the most powerful results in the shortest
time. You receive my full and warmest attention.

Discovering & Changing Limiting
Beliefs is being able to identify and remove limiting belief
statements, and is of prime importance to anyone wishing to facilitate
change in behaviour. To change eating habits, lifestyle, to take
responsibility for one’s own health, reduce distress responses, etc.
will require belief work, because what we believe creates the reality we experience.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
These tips and
ideas for losing weight are strictly suggestions and must not be taken as
medical or scientific advice. They have been collected from various
sources and experts but it is essential that before starting any kind of weight
loss or exercise plan you seek advice from a medical professional first.
Healthy diets are
better than weight loss diets
Stop dieting. Diets
have a very low rate of long-term success when it comes to weight loss, based
as they are on denial, willpower and frequently bizarre combinations and types
of foods. What happens when you have achieved the weight loss and stop
the diet? If you go back to your 'normal' eating habits, chances are the
weight will go back on, leading to yo-yo dieting.
Stop seeing diets
as a short term fix to weight loss - there's no such thing. Focus instead
on a combination of sensible eating and exercise for sustainable and gradual
weight loss as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Concentrate on the
quality of your food, rather than quantity. Eat the best quality food you
can afford, go for fresh ingredients and avoid processed food. A little
of what you fancy does you good, but limit treats such as junk food to
occasional indulgences.
Think about
your current exercise routine - It's scientific
If you want to lose
weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume - it's a simple
equation. The best way to do this without resorting to punishing eating
patterns is to increase your level of physical activity through exercise.
You can achieve results by adding small amounts of exercise, say 30 minutes 3-5
times per week - find something you can enjoy and will be able to keep up.
Increasing your
exercise levels will have many other benefits; overall you will become fitter
and healthier, have more energy, feel better about yourself and will probably
not feel hungry all the time. If you focus on exercise, and other things
in your life such as friends, family, hobbies and interests, you will become
more fulfilled and food will not become such an important factor.
Don't use food as
an emotional crutch. Recognise the times that you tend to eat when you
are not hungry - when you are bored, angry, upset, anxious, stressed or
lonely. Identify these triggers and when you feel them coming on, do
something else. Phone a friend if you are on your own, have a relaxing
bath if you are feeling stressed, exercise if you are frustrated or
upset. Food will make you feel better only temporarily, if at all.
The best
way to lose weight - Set achievable goals
When thinking about
losing weight, define what your real goals are. Do you really want to
weigh less, or do you actually want to feel more confident, be fitter, or look
good in certain clothes? You may find that adopting a healthier lifestyle
and increasing your exercise doesn't actually change the figures on the scales,
but that you have more energy, have less body fat and start to look more toned
and firm. Set positive goals, rather than just wishing there was less of
you. This really is the best way for you to lose weight and maintain that
weight loss.
Once you have
defined what you want to achieve, set specific goals and timescales, but make
sure these are realistic. For example, 'lose 5 lbs in 6 weeks' rather
than 'lose a stone in a month' or the even vaguer 'lose a bit of weight'.
Having defined and achievable goals will help to motivate you. The most
common tip you will hear from someone who has lost weight or a professional who
has helped someone else to lose weight is 'Have a plan and set achievable
goals'.
Another well kept
secret tip is this; don’t actually think of it as losing weight, think of it as
gaining something else.
We are what we eat!
Bananas...
This is very interesting.
After Reading THIS, you'll NEVER look at a banana in the same way again -
Bananas. Containing three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber, a banana gives an instant,
sustained and substantial
boost of energy.
Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is
the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.
But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help
overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions,
making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people
suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana.
This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax,
improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.
PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose
levels, which can
affect your mood.
Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of haemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.
Blood Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet
low in salt, making it the perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so,
the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to
make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood
pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at
breakfast, break, and
lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making
pupils more alert.
Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem
without resorting
to laxatives.
Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms
the stomach and, with the
help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.
Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for
soothing relief.
Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between
meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and
avoid morning sickness.
Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many
people find it
amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.
Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.
Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology
in Austria found
pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and
crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most
obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report
concluded that, to
avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar
levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two
hours to keep levels steady.
Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is
the only raw fruit that
can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by
coating the lining
of the stomach.
Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a 'cooling' fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional
temperature of expectant
mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.
Smoking: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The
B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium
found in them, help
the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.
Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the
heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's
water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby
reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of
a
high-potassium banana snack.
Strokes: According to research in 'The New England Journal of Medicine, 'eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut
the risk of death by
strokes by as much as 40%!
Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on
the wart, with the
yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical
tape!
So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice
the carbohydrate, three
times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals.
It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around.
So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so
that we say, 'A banana a day keeps the doctor away!'
PASS THIS ON TO ALL OF YOUR ON-LINE FRIENDS and FAMILY
PS: Bananas must be the reason why monkeys seem so happy all the time!
BECOMING A NON-SMOKER
Ask yourself these questions, it will help you to think about the subject. Then you can decide what you want to do about it.
How many cigarettes a day do you smoke?
When did you start?
What do you get from smoking?
What frightens you about smoking?
What is important to you about stopping smoking?
How will you life be different when you stop smoking?
What are the advantages of stopping smoking?
What are the disadvantages of stopping smoking?
What are the advantages of continuing smoking?
What are the advantages of not continuing smoking?
Does the expense of smoking bother you?
What would you do with the money instead of burning it?
Do you really want to stop?
What has been stopping you?
Are you tired of smoking?
Do you feel that you would like to experience the inner you - the healthy self - come out of a cloud?
There is a commitment that is needed - nobody can MAKE you stop - the desire has to come from within.
Perhaps you hate it,
but feel you need it? Maybe you used to enjoy it, but now you don’t…
Perhaps many of your friends have now quit…
Hypnotherapy is scientifically proven to be the most effective way of becoming a non-smoker:
“Hypnosis is the
most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever
scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower it turns
out, counts for very little.”
New Scientist vol 136 issue 1845
Smoking encompasses
both a chemical addiction and a psychological dependency. I use a
thorough approach which tackles both aspects of the habit. It works by
completely removing the desire to smoke, leaving you feeling happier
and healthier than ever before.
You CAN kick this habit… for good!
Becoming a healthy non-smoker means adding
years to your life, improving your health and fitness, saving money AND
smelling better. Imagine not worrying about your health. Imagine not
wasting £4 or £5 per day on cigarettes.
You will have more
energy. More vitality, more shine. You will grow stronger… healthier…
richer… Most of all you will feel good about yourself… Being a
non-smoker means freedom from addiction.
NOTE: Willpower is not required - just your commitment.
Our Life is what our thoughts make it. ~ Joy Gower
SMOKING - SOME STATISTICS
120,000 People in the UK
die every year from
smoking related illness
while only 500 people die from drink driving
Every cigarette equates to 11 minutes off your life expectancy
Smokers children are 70% more likely to start smoking themselves
Smoke 20 cigarettes per day for life and it will :-
a. Reduce your life expectancy by 10% !!
b. Cost you £1,300 each year !!
c. Cost you £100,000 over your lifetime !!
d.
It can KILL YOU !!!
As more and more people want to stop smoking, realising the
health and social benefits of giving up smoking, there can surely be no doubt
that to stop smoking, by whatever method, is one of the most worthwhile and
desirable goals around.
So, what’s the best way to stop smoking? To help answer this question, the
respected scientific publication ‘New Scientist’*, reporting on research
carried out on over 70,000 people, proved hypnosis to be the most effective way
to give up the smoking habit.
Getting help to stop smoking with hypnotherapy / hypnosis, was found to be 300%
as successful as nicotine replacement therapy, and 500% as successful as just
will power alone.
Most smokers believe that it is the addiction to nicotine that makes it so hard
to stop smoking. In fact, there is no addiction; it is the habit of smoking,
which can make it so hard to stop. If it were an addiction, then it would not
be possible for large numbers of people to stop immediately, as they do through
hypnosis.
Think about how many cigarettes might get smoked in 8 hours during the day, and
then ask yourself if that person is likely to get up the same number of times
during the night to smoke, or need the same number first thing in the morning –
to catch up? No? – Then the smoking is driven by habit, NOT addiction.
One of the main reasons that the habit of smoking is so ingrained in the mind,
is because the habit is linked to so many situations and events… with the first
cup of coffee in the morning, break times at work, after a meal, in situations
of stress, social situations… I’m sure you’ll probably be able to identify some
of your own.
This is why hypnotherapy can be so effective at helping someone to stop
smoking. Help with hypnosis for stop smoking, deals directly with the habitual processes,
which cause the person to smoke. Hypnosis to help someone quit smoking, doesn’t
so much make a person stop smoking, rather, it can remove the desire to smoke.
All that's needed is a strong and genuine desire to stop that smoking habit.
Hypnosis is not a magic wand, and can only help you if you want to help
yourself give up the smoking habit. If you come because your partner wants you
to stop, then you are probably wasting your money.
My stop smoking hypnotherapy session is a two unit programme, and just one-to-one
private session – no group sessions, set in a quiet and comfortable environment.
Beginning with taking a short history, it goes on to discuss the general
smoking pattern and the individual smoking ‘triggers’, and then moves on to the
most relaxing part of the session, the stop smoking hypnosis / hypnotherapy
session itself.
Ask yourself these questions below, it will help you to think about the subject
and then you can decide what you want to do about it.
